No Action Alternative

The No Action Alternative represents the most likely future in the absence of a Reclamation action, such as a storage contract. Each of the Project Participants would independently develop other water supplies in response to future growth. Untreated water for Colorado Springs would be exchanged upstream from Fountain Creek, diverted from the Arkansas River at the Lester-Attebery ditch near Florence, stored in a new reservoir on Jimmy Camp Creek, treated, and distributed to Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs’ existing untreated water intake near Buena Vista (Ark-Otero Intake) would be reconfigured. This change would allow exchanges to the Lester-Attebery ditch under Colorado Springs’ existing water rights. Colorado Springs would also develop Denver Basin ground water. Colorado Springs’ reusable return flows would be stored in a new reservoir on Williams Creek prior to exchange down Fountain Creek. Fountain would expand its Fountain Creek alluvial wellfield, and Security would acquire additional water rights in the Widefield aquifer. Pueblo West would obtain its water from the Arkansas River near Pueblo Reservoir.
